Using Media & Social Platforms in Civil Rights Litigation

EVENT DESCRIPTION

The media can be a powerful tool for advocates in policing cases. But how and when to engage the press or use social media can often raise strategic and ethical questions depending on the facts of your case. Civil rights attorney and legal commentator Sue-Ann Robinson of Ben Crump Law will provide detailed advice on how to effectively use the media to support your clients, firm, and the broader movement for police accountability. This training is designed for attorneys who want to use media strategically in police accountability cases.


ABOUT the SPEAKER(S)

Sue-Ann Robinson is lawyer and legal commentator for Court TV. She has been featured on Fox News, Black News Channel, The Young Turks, and Law and Crime as a legal analyst addressing issues ranging from police misconduct to newsworthy civil cases. She has been recognized by the Super Lawyers Magazine for eight consecutive years, The National Black Lawyers as one of the top 40 Black lawyers under 40, one of “Top Ten Black Women Lawyers You Should Know” in the Black Enterprise Magazine, and one of America’s Top 100 Criminal Defense Attorney’s in 2020-2023. She is also a cast member and legal expert on STARZ True Crime Series Wrong Man.

At 23 years old, Robinson began her legal career as a prosecutor. She served as the Assistant State Attorney for the State of Florida where she handled various cases ranging from misdemeanors to homicide. She later began her own private practice, where she representing individuals and corporations in high stakes litigation as a Trial Attorney. She also practices criminal defense, civil rights, and entertainment law. She has served as Lead Counsel in her capacity of Assistant State Attorney, and in private practice. Currently Managing Director for South Florida for Ben Crump Law, Robinson has worked with Ben Crump Law as a Civil Rights Attorney since 2018. As an attorney with 17 years experience she skillfully represents her clients in Federal and State court.

ACCREDITATION

This event is accredited for 1.5 general credit hours with the State Bar of California (NPAP is a multiple activity provider with the State Bar of CA).

Most attendees should be able to self-report for CLE credit to their own state bars, and in instances where a state bar requires that the event sponsor report on behalf of attendees, NPAP is happy to assist.


RECORDING

The event will be recorded and the recording will be available to attendees after the event. However, attendees will only be elligible for CLE credit for the portions of the event that they attended live. Retroactive viewing of recordings will not be elligible for CLE credit, as NPAP does not have a means of validating attendee participation in this circumstance.
